Chiefs to use 2020 NFL Draft to build on Super Bowl-winning roster

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — I think for the first time maybe ever the Chiefs can truly draft the best player available for each pick they hold in the 2020 NFL Draft, with the exception of quarterback (for obvious reasons).

There are areas of the team that are stronger than others, yes, but no glaring need that's holding them back. I mean, they won the Super Bowl, after all.

Thus, I could see them going in a bunch of different directions even with their first round pick. Cornerback, linebacker, wide receiver, running back, offensive line, defensive line, safety. Whoever the best player is sitting there after 31 picks tonight, I believe the Chiefs will take a long, hard look at him.

When forced to pick a name, I've gone with A.J. Terrell, a cornerback out of Clemson. He's a talented and highly coveted player and might have to slide a bit to get to the Chiefs. But drafts never go as planned.

That's if the Chiefs make a selection tonight. Remember, they don't have to select in the first round. After all, their last first round pick was Patrick Mahomes back in 2017. And at no. 32, they will be getting a lot of interest from other teams wanting to trade back into the first round. And with only five picks in this draft, it might behoove Chiefs general manager Brett Veach to trade down and get more picks.

So, that's my prediction for tonight. The Chiefs trade down, gather more picks, and don't make a selection until the second round. As Super Bowl Champs, they can afford it.
