KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two key Kansas City Chiefs defensive players missed practice Thursday.

Defensive end Alex Okafor, who was injured in the season opener and missed last week's game at the Los Angeles Chargers, remained sidelined with a hamstring injury, but coach Andy Reid said he is improving.

Wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who was speared in the head by Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman during Sunday’s game, continues going through the concussion protocol, but Reid said it's "more neck right now than the other part."

Reid called Watkins a “tough kid” and said he is working through the injury.

Starting cornerback Charvarius Ward, who didn’t play in Sunday’s game after breaking a bone in his left hand against the Houston Texans, was “going to get out there and move around" at Thursday's practice, Reid said.

Reid said they would monitor Ward's progress to see if he is able to return for the Monday night showdown at the Baltimore Ravens.
