KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There are some familiar names among the 2019 Associated Press All-Pro selections.
Four members of the Kansas City Chiefs were included on the AP's list.
Safety Tyrann Mathieu, a notable Pro Bowl snub and the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for December, was chosen as a first-team All-Pro at defensive back.
It is the second All-Pro honor for Mathieu, who also was chosen second-team All-Pro at safety. Mathieu was a first-team All-Pro safety in 2015 with Arizona.
Mathieu, who signed with the Chiefs in the offseason as the central free-agent signing of the club's defensive makeover, leads Kansas City with four interceptions and 12 passes defended this season. He also ranks third with 75 tackles, including two sacks and four tackles for a loss.
Tight end Travis Kelce, right tackle Mitchell Schwartz and kick returner Mecole Hardman Jr. joined Mathieu as second-team All-Pro picks.
Kelce became the first tight end in NFL history with four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2019. He finished with 97 catches for 1,229 — both team-highs — and five touchdowns.
Hardman, a rookie second-round pick from the University of Georgia, leads the Chiefs with a 20.7-yard average per reception. He hauled in 26 passes for 538 yards with six touchdowns overall, while averaging 9.3 yards per punt return and 26.1 yards per kickoff return.
Hardman's 104-yard kickoff return touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers last weekend keyed Kansas City's second-half comeback win.
Like Mathieu, Schwartz is among the Chiefs' biggest Pro Bowl snubs, but received All-Pro recognition in voting from a panel of 50 national media members.
Six Chiefs were selected for the Pro Bowl. Kelce and Hardman will be joined by wide Tyreek Hill, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive end Frank Clark and defensive tackle Chris Jones on Jan. 26 at the annual AFC vs. NFC exhibition in Orlando.
