KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After announcing starting quarterback Skylar Thompson will miss the rest of the season due to injury, Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman said he isn't sure if Thompson will return next season.

When asked, Klieman said he hasn't spoken to Thompson about returning next year.

"We'll have a conversation with every senior, that's something that we know has to happen sooner rather than later in some spots," said Klieman.

Monday, Klieman said Thompson suffered “an upper-body injury” which required surgery.

"At the end of the week, it became evident that the most positive thing for him long-term was going to be to shut him down and have surgery," said Klieman.

On Tuesday, he wouldn’t specify the type of injury that Thompson suffered.

Klieman said he has not seen Thompson since his surgery, but has exchanged text messages with Thompson’s father.

Last week, Klieman said he was hopeful that Thompson would be able to play against Texas Christian.

According to Klieman, Thompson is at peace with the decision to have the season-ending surgery.

Thompson has started 30 games for K-State and ranks in the top 10 in program history in 14 career categories.

This season, Thompson threw four touchdowns, no interceptions and rushed for three touchdowns.

His last start was against Texas Tech on Oct. 3 where he suffered the injury.

The Wildcats return to action on Oct. 24 against Kansas.
