KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Arrowhead Stadium will continue to host fans when the NFL postseason action returns next month amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
By clinching a record-tying fifth straight AFC West championship with a win Sunday at the Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs are guaranteed at least one home playoff game.
Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said during a postgame press conference Sunday that the plan for now is for Arrowhead to remain at 22% capacity, or roughly maximum of 17,000 fans in the postseason.
The Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department approved the Chiefs' mitigation strategy and set that capacity limit in August.
Hunt said Chiefs officials discuss health and safety issues related to COVID-19 with respect to Arrowhead on a regular basis with city health officials and will continue to do so moving forward.
The Chiefs close the regular season with home games Dec. 27 against the Atlanta Falcons and Jan. 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Kansas City, which is 12-1 for the first time in franchise history and has won eight straight games, remains in the hunt for the top seed in the AFC along with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
