KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the eighth consecutive year, the Kansas State men's basketball team defeated a Top 10 team.
The latest coming Tuesday night at home in Manhattan against the #4 Oklahoma Sooners.
"Tonight was about diversity and inclusion and being a family," said head coach Bruce Weber. "They had to raise their game up, and they've stuck together. You had a heart-breaker at Kansas and they could have easily put their heads down, but they came back tonight and played a really high level."
Yes, the win -- K-State's third of the Big 12 season -- came just three days after K-State's one-point loss in Lawrence to KU.
"We were driven a little bit more. We wanted to get this win," said junior guard Barry Brown. "We knew we had another opportunity at a top team in our league and even in the country."
Wildcat fans can thank Brown, who led all scorers with 24 points.
"Barry did everything. Obviously defensively he guarded Trae Young; he's one of the best players in the country," Weber said.
It's true. Oklahoma's Young leads the nation in scoring (29 ppg) and assists (9 apg). But on this night the freshman managed "only" 20 points and six assists. Plus, Young had 12 turnovers all by himself.
"Every time there's a big-time guy coming in, I'm always motivated to guard him," said Brown. "And with my teammates' help, it paid off."
Kansas State gets to stay at home for another contest Saturday against TCU.
