KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Denver Broncos selected Lee’s Summit native and former Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock in the second round on the 2019 NFL Draft on Friday night.

Lock was selected with the 42nd overall pick.

Lock threw for 3,498 yards, 28 touchdown and eight interceptions during his senior season in Columbia. During his junior year, he set the SEC single-season record for passing touchdowns with 44.

“It’s going to be different. 22 years in Missouri. A little Kansas City a little Columbia,” said Lock before the draft. “It’s definitely going to be different but I’m excited about it. Took me 22 years to warm up to the thought of getting out of Missouri but I’m finally here. I’m excited.”

Lock played at Lee’s Summit High School, winning the Simone Award, an award given to the best high school football player in the Kansas City metro area.

When he arrived at Mizzou, Lock’s success did not stop. He finished second in Mizzou history in touchdown passes and passing yards. Only Chase Daniel has thrown more.

“He’s going to play ball a long time,” said Mizzou head coach Barry Odom on the NFL Draft Red Carpet. “He’s going to have a long career and I’m so excited for him.”
