KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kevin Faulk certainly has a unique perspective on Chiefs first round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Faulk is on the coaching staff at LSU and has had a first-hand look at the new Kansas City running back.

"Great athlete. Ever since he was young, he's had special talents," Faulk said Friday in an interview with 41 Action News. "I had the luxury of watching Clyde play high school football. And when I got hired at LSU, to see that he was there, it was a fit."

Faulk, now the running backs coach at LSU, is also a former LSU running back and a 13-year NFL veteran with the New England Patriots, who knows what it's like to play with a Super Bowl-winning quarterback (Tom Brady).

"I think he hit the lottery. I think both sides hit the lottery," Faulk said. "And when it came out that Kansas City had the 32nd pick and not a single running back had been taken, it was like 'Whoa, this possibly could happen.'"

It happened. And now the running back who just completed an undefeated national championship season at LSU will make the biggest step of his football career.

"It's your job now," Faulk said when asked what advice he passed on to Edwards-Helaire. "So, take it that way. Master your craft. There's something in us that we have to master. And whatever that may be for him, I think he'll get it done."
