KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One of the certainties of the offseason appears to be less of a lock than we thought.
Eric Berry, who has played in parts of four games over two seasons for the Chiefs, was slated to have surgery on his problematic heel. But after seeking a second opinion, Berry says he'll elect not to have surgery after all.
Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports reporting the sudden change of mind. Berry does say that he will participate in all of the team's offseason activities.
It's been the in-season activities that Berry has mostly missed. After rupturing his Achilles tendon in the first game of the 2017, Berry rehabbed the rest of the year. In 2018, Berry was famously listed as "day-to-day" with a heel condition known as Haglund's Deformity from mid-August all the way to his first game action against the Chargers in December.
Berry played part of that game and the next one in Seattle before sitting out the season finale against the Raiders and the club's first postseason game against Indianapolis. Berry returned for the AFC Championship Game against New England. In the last two seasons, he has 18 total tackles.
