KU had no trouble handling UConn Saturday night, defeating the Huskies in the second round of the NCAA Tournament 73-61 for their first Sweet 16 birth since 2013.

Lew's Grill and Bar in Waldo was packed with fans hours before tipoff, but the sports bar had several empty tables by half time.

"They got into a big lead and it cleared out a little bit, but they'll be back," said David Staton, manager of Lew's Grill and Bar.

Some fans said they feel this Jayhawks team is the best in years and that they would consider heading to Louisville or Houston if the team continues to win.

"If it works with my work schedule, then absolutely. I would love for that to happen," said one KU alum.

KU will play the winner of Maryland-Hawaii next Thursday in Louisville in the regional semifinal. The winner of that game will play for the right to go to the 2016 Final Four in Houston.

Fun filled facts:

  • KU out rebounded UConn 44-24 Saturday night.
  • The KU win handed UConn head coach Kevin Ollie's first loss in the NCAA Tournament (7-1).
  • The Jayhawks have won 16 straight games.
  • Perry Ellis entered the top 10 on KU's all-time scoring list following his 21-point effort Saturday, passing Kirk Hinrich.
