KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As the Kansas City Chiefs prepared to face the Cincinnati Bengals in their preseason opener on Saturday, fans prepared for another season of cheering on their favorite team and its lineup of star players.

Fans gathered at the Truman Sports Complex to tailgate before kickoff and talk about the season to come.

"We're still pretty upset about the Patriots game, so revenge, redemption," fan Ashley Winders said about what she hopes for the upcoming season.

Many fans expressed their hope that the Chiefs will end up in the Super Bowl, which they fell just short of last season.

"I'm anticipating a Super Bowl. We've got a defense now, so I'm excited about all the money we've put into the changes and the offensive is still killer," fan Nick Niemeyer said.

At the center of fan discussions was Chiefs star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

"I like that he can throw sidearm without looking," fan Tyson Reed said.

Many hoped that a little Kansas City sports magic will help give that Chiefs the extra push.

"I've got high hopes because the Royals were 90-feet away from the World Series and they win it the next year. This is the year the Chiefs are going to repeat. It's a Kansas City thing," Niemeyer said.

The Chiefs kick off at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium.
