KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thursday will be a night for the understudies, even the underdogs.
No, Patrick Mahomes and the majority of the Chiefs starters will not be playing in the fourth preseason game at Arrowhead against the Packers.
Instead, it will be a bunch of guys just trying to join Mahomes on the Chiefs 53-man roster.
One of those players is undrafted linebacker Ben Niemann who has starred in reserve duty this month. He stuffed a Texans running back on 4th & 1 in the first preseason game. He also had a pick-6 against the Falcons a week later.
"It's one of those games where he has to play well and he'll have some extended time to do so," said head coach Andy Reid.
Saturday the Chiefs must have their roster cut down to 53 players.
