KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Kansas City Chief Will Shields is taking his expertise to the collegiate level.
Shields has been named to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.
"I had a couple friends that said, 'Hey, would you be interested?'" said Shields, a 2011 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame. "And I said, 'Sure, let's see what happens.' And I ended up getting that knock on the door."
Shields started at Nebraska in the early 1990s before the Chiefs made him a third-round pick in the NFL Draft in 1993.
"I think it's really cool to contribute, be a part of it," Shields said. "College was good for me. So I can't complain."
Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart, NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and Virginia Union athletic director Joe Taylor also are joining the committee.
Shields' three-year term on the committee will begin this spring.
