Independiente takes lead over Sporting KC in two-leg quarterfinals of Champions League play

PANAMA — Sporting KC dropped the first leg of its two-leg aggregate round against Independiente Wednesday night, 2-1.

The match was on the road at Estadio Agustin Sanchez in La Chorrera, Panama and was part of the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League bracket.

Independiente opened the scoring in the 39th minute, but Sporting was able to even the match in the 2nd half with a penalty kick by Ilie.

But minutes later, Alexis Corpas delivered the game-winner passed Sporting goalie Adrian Zendejas.

Zendejas and many other Sporting reserves started the match. The team was playing its third road match in three different countries in a week.

Sporting now takes a 2-1 deficit, albeit with a road goal, back home to Children's Mercy Park against Independiente next Thursday.
