LAWRENCE, Kan. — The University of Kansas is the next hope for Baylor University's football team to step on the field.

Baylor was supposed to open its football season Sept. 12 against Louisiana Tech University, but that game was canceled due to coronavirus concerns with the Bulldogs.

The Bears tried again this past Saturday to play their lone non-conference game when Houston agreed to travel to Waco, Texas. But that game, too, was canceled when Baylor couldn't adequately fill a certain position group because of injury and the coronavirus.

Their next attempt to open the season will be Saturday when Kansas is scheduled to visit.

"We're going to spend our time preparing to play that group," KU head coach Les Miles said.

The Jayhawks will take their own COVID tests later this week, along with the Bears.

"I know this," Miles said. "We'll all take a test on Thursday and some time Friday or some time Thursday night we'll have the test results, and I'm sure they will as well."

KU has played one game already, losing to Coastal Carolina at home on Sept. 12.
