LAWRENCE, Kan. — Bill Self said this season's crop of Big 12 teams is the best he's seen. And, Saturday, he was proven right at his own expense.
The Texas Longhorns walked into Allen Fieldhouse as one of those highly ranked Big 12 teams and walked out with one of the more eye-popping wins of the season: an 84-59 stomping of Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse.
"I think whenever you get your butts handed to you, usually come in ready to fight and grind a little bit more," said Self in reference to his team's response to the loss.
KU shot just 30% and made only three of their 23 three-point shot attempts.
"From the outside perspective, we've got to get this fixed immediately," Self said. "Well, that's not how this works."
The Jayhawks will try to put that performance behind them Tuesday night when they go on the road to Texas Christian University.
"If we can't recover from this, we're the softest group of all-time," Self said. "This is what happens in sports to everybody. So I can't believe that our guys won't respond."
