KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals are in spring training, but there’s still work to do back at Kauffman Stadium ahead of the 2020 season.
Crews were busy Friday installing a new 33,424-pound foul pole in right field, which eventually will be used to hang additional protective netting to increase fan safety.
According to a Royals spokesman, the 20-inch pipe assembly with 2-inch-thick walls placed today weighs 23,504 pounds.
An additional assembly on top, which should be added next week, weighs 7,632 pounds and the 2-foot fins tack on an additional 2,288 pounds.
The left-field foul pole will be erected early next week, a team spokesman said, with the netting added after that process is complete.
