KANSAS CITY, Mo. — We’re pretty sure it wasn’t a champagne celebration, but Kansas City International Airport and the Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department planned a special celebration for Mayor Quinton Lucas’ return to Kansas City from Miami.
Lucas, who was sworn in as mayor in August, is a lifelong and devoted Chiefs fan.
He spent the weekend in Miami, where the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV in stirring fashion, 31-20 against the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Upon returning to KCI, his plane was greeted with a “water celebration” on the tarmac as it taxied to the gate.

Lucas may have been among the most excited fans in Miami.
All right, I gotta catch that first flight back to #KCMO so off to sleep for two long hours. But of course, I’ve got to show our #SuperBowl in-stands #ChiefsKingdom celebration. Congrats, #KansasCity, you deserve this amazing moment. @Chiefs @KCMO pic.twitter.com/dFbIjB0isf

And he made sure to get a moment with the Lombardi Trophy before returning home.
I’m still dreaming. #ChiefsKingdom #SuperBowlLIV #KansasCity pic.twitter.com/fpBD85H0N8
