KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Derrick Johnson followed in fellow former University of Texas star Jamaal Charles' footsteps Wednesday, signing a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs drafted Johnson more than 14 years ago and he went on to become the franchise's all-time leader in tackles during 13 seasons despite missing significant chunks of two seasons with torn Achilles' tendons.
He "broke" the defensive huddle one last time with the Chiefs at Wednesday's practice.
The final break.

The inside linebacker was a four-time Pro-Bowler with the Chiefs after being drafted 15th overall in 2005. He spent his final season in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders.
