KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Today should have been Opening Day for Major League Baseball.
Today's slate of games should have included the Kansas City Royals' season opener at the Chicago White Sox.
Thanks to MLB’s efforts to help stop the spread of COVID-19, in accordance with Centers for Disease Prevention and Control guidance, today’s opening day was postponed indefinitely until at least mid-May.
But to celebrate Opening Day, the Royals and organizations across baseball are getting creative.
For the Royals, that means using its Facebook and YouTube pages to rebroadcast Game 5 of the 2015 World Series, the championship-clinching win against the New York Mets at Citi Field in Queens, New York.
We’re celebrating, too.
41 Action News Sports Director Mick Shaffer, who is operating out of his home studio, will watch the game with some of his closest friends using a virtual living room — what with social distancing and all that jazz.
It seems kinda strange, but you can watch and interact with Mick and his friends as they relive the game, including Eric Hosmer's mad dash home to force extra innings, live from your living room.
