KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Since middle school, all eyes have been on star basketball player Cierra Smith.
Now in her junior season at Grandview High School, the spotlight is shining even brighter.
“She was our best player from Day One," said Brian Everett, Grandview High School head girls basketball coach.
This season, the Bulldogs are without a senior on their starting roster.
Grandview currently is 6-2 in conference play with Smith leading the way. She currently averages more than 23 points per game, pushing her past the school's record.
“I was surprised because I didn’t know how close I was to it," Smith said. "So that really shocked me."
On Feb. 11, Grandview defeated Winnetonka at home, 73-18.
Smith scored 22 points, which pushed her past the 1,500 career points marker.
“I’ve never seen it before," Everett said. "No, which of course, she’s a junior, it just boggles the mind."
With 1,511 points to be exact, Smith said she'll continue to get buckets and hopefully reach 2,000 next season during her senior year.
