KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After leading St. James Academy football team to its first state title, coach Tom Radke added another piece of hardware Sunday.
He was named the Chiefs Eric Driskell Coach of the Year for the 2020 high school football season in the Kansas City area.
The Thunder won the 2020 Kansas Class 4A state championship, ending six-time defending champion Bishop Miege's bid to add to their dynasty in the state semifinals.
St. James finished the season 8-4, but got hot for the postseason, culminating in a 56-34 win over Arkansas City in the title game Nov. 27 at Gowans Stadium on the campus of Hutchinson Community College.
“It’s awesome,” Radke said after the win.“You see all these guys win state titles and get all the hoopla and then you're in it and it's like, ‘Ok, this is neat. This is special.’"
This is Radke's first Chiefs Coach of the Year award.
