KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A pair of football exhibitions scheduled this month among teams in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association have been canceled due to several COVID-19 positive tests.

Washburn University said Thursday that its exhibition games scheduled for Saturday against Northwest Missouri State University and Nov. 14 against the University of Central Missouri have been canceled due to 15 players testing positive for COVID-19.

The school said after contact tracing, it would not have enough players at certain positions to play the exhibition.

"Our players did a very good job of preparing to play the two games," Ichabods coach Craig Schurig said. “We had good practices and we were excited to see our guys compete against NWMSU and Central Missouri.

“We are disappointed that we can't play the games. I am thankful that our administration and athletic department gave us the opportunity to prepare for two games. We look forward to working with our players during the spring semester and getting ready for a full season in the fall of 2021."
