KANSAS CITY, Kan. – In a few weeks, the new home for Sporting Kansas City will open. It will also be a training facility for U.S. Soccer.

The National Training and Coaching Development Center is located off Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas.

Set to open in December, the facility will be the new home for Sporting Kansas City and will host national teams, coaches and referees for training.

“When the whole idea came in building that facility, it was around a couple different things – it was coaching education, referee education, and then also select national teams will be brought in to use the facility for player development. And then the added benefit is Sporting KC – the senior team will make that its home starting in 2018,” said Peter Vermes with Sporting Kansas City.

The $80 million campus will have multiple practice fields, offices and meeting rooms.

It will also be the home of the Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center. Vermes said the facility will be the hub for youth athlete sports medicine services for U.S. Soccer.

“You look at the fact that we are in the middle of the country. If you build a national training facility in California, or in Florida, you are on the extremes. The fact that we are in the middle – its close proximity, our players come from all over the country, the fact that we are in the middle is a great location,” said Vermes.

Wyandotte County officials say this will bring more money to the area with a constant flow of teams, players and coaches coming to the NTCDC.
