KANSAS CITY, Mo. — DeAndre Washington knows what all the Patrick Mahomes fuss is all about.
Actually, he's known for quite some time.
Washington and Mahomes played college football together at Texas Tech.
The newest Chiefs running back remembers the first time he saw the Chiefs' MVP quarterback on the practice field.
"He was kind of just running around playing backyard football," Washington, who joins the Chiefs after four years with the Raiders, said. "It was something that we weren't accustomed to at that time. It was just Pat being Pat."
The rest of the football world has caught up to Washington's observations after an NFL MVP season in 2018 and a Super Bowl championship in 2019.
"He wast just able to make a lot of plays that most guys couldn't," Washington said.
Mahomes isn't the only player on Washington's new team that he's admired.
Washington, a 5-foot-8 and 210-pound running back back, has long been a fan of Andy Reid as well.
"I've followed him since way back, since I could really understand football," Washington said. "I'm a big fan of him and his play-calling and the way he utilizes his weapons."
Washington's addition means the Chiefs currently have six running backs on the roster.
