OLATHE, Kan. — Being one of the top institutions in the country Duke University can have the pick of the litter when it comes to recruiting. In fact, they came all the way to Olathe North to snatch up one of the best track and field athletes in the country.

Dana Baker is arguably the best javelin thrower in the history of Kansas high school athletics. In fact, she recently broke the state record — hurling the javelin 175 feet.

She's an All-American and two-time state champion in the javelin. Baker will compete for her third straight state title Friday in Wichita.

After that, it's off to Duke University next year to continue her career. While she's thrilled to be headed to Duke, she glad that the recruiting process has come to an end.

"It was really stressful, there were so many good options," said Baker. For me, it was one of the first important decisions I've ever had to make by myself. Just myself being sure that I made the right decision it's really difficult. I'm excited for what I chose."
