KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As the fifth day of training camp practice began at Arrowhead Stadium's facility on Wednesday, a familiar face returned to the field.

Wednesday morning, Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill joined his teammates for the first time since week 17. Last season, Thornhill tore his ACL during the Chiefs' game against the Los Angeles Chargers, ending his promising rookie season abruptly.

Head coach Andy Reid was more than pleased to see the young safety come off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

“He was limited today, but we will keep ramping him up," Reid said. "I'm sure he will have a few good workouts since being activated again, so we think that’s a plus.”

Officially off the PUP list and activated, the second-year safety will now work his way up to full participation.

On the same side of the ball, another Chiefs player faces a likely suspension. Chiefs starting cornerback Bashaud Breeland is expected to be suspended for four games to start the NFL season.

Breeland was arrested in late April on multiple charges, including marijuana possession, which is a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

The Chiefs are now lacking experience at the position, but Reid seems to feel confident the Super Bowl champions will make do.

“Time will tell here as we go, but we’ve got a good nucleus of guys and it will all sort out here in the next few weeks," the coach said. "Everybody is working hard and getting a lot of reps, which is good, so we should be fine there.”

The Chiefs re-signed the cornerback this offseason to a one-year deal worth up to $4.5 million. Breeland played a big role in the Chiefs' Super Bowl win, snagging an interception, picking off 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
