Posted

Between the news of Kareem Hunt being cut from the Chiefs and reports of K-State football head coach Bill Snyder's possible retirement, It has been a busy day in the Kansas City sports world. But, Park University is making headlines of their own.

The women's volleyball team advanced to the NAIA national semifinals for the third time in program history.

No. 2 Park defeated No. 10 Southern Oregon in a four-set thriller, 25-23, 25-10, 22-25, 26-24. It was the first time the two schools had met each in their history. Nada Meawad led the team with 15 kills while her teammates Alissa Flint and Paul de Oliveira each had 14 kills respectively. Celina Monteiro finished the game with 24 digs.

It has been a banner year for the Pirates who improved to 34-1 on the year. And, the team is currently one step away from playing in the NAIA national championship match. They won it all in 2014 and would love to get another chance to capture a title.

They will face No. 11 Midland (Neb.) in the NAIA national semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m. Park is 2-2 against Midland all-time. The last time these two teams faced was on August 26, 2011. That was a game the Pirates won in four sets.
