BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — After spending nearly 22 years side-by-side, the Davis twins from Blue Springs are about to embark on a new normal after being split up by the 2020 NFL Draft.

"Ever since the draft, we're starting to realize we're going our separate ways," Khalil Davis, a sixth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said.

Khalil's brother, Carlos, waited another half-hour before hearing his name called as a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both play defensive tackle.

"It's exciting," Khalil said, "starting new lives in separate places. Maybe a little sad because we're both going to be on our own, but we're both just really excited.

The Davis twins were highly decorated players for Blue Springs High School, helping the Wildcats win the 2013 Class 6 state title.

"That '13 team was loaded," Khalil said. "We just wanted to leave a legacy to show that Blue Springs has just as many top-tier athletes as any other state or team, and I think we did that."

Joined at the hip since birth, the Davis twins would go on to earn 18 combined letters during their time as teammates at Nebraska, where they played football and also threw discus for the Cornhuskers' indoor and outdoor track-and-field teams.

Now, as they head their separate ways and into the NFL as rookies trying to make the roster, each brother is already dreaming of who they'll sack first.

For Carlos, it's future AFC North foe and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, while Khalil has his sites trained on the NFL's all-time leading passer, future Hall of Famer Drew Brees.
