KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Seven months ago, thousands of Kansas City Chiefs fans packed KC Live! at the Power & Light District to see the end of a 50-year Super Bowl drought.

The first game as defending champions will feature significantly fewer fans, but they'll still be able to visit the District to watch the 2020 season opener.

"When fans come down on Thursday night for the Chiefs game, we've got tables set up throughout the KC Live! block, more than 100 tables. And we want to really encourage people to make reservations in advance," marketing director Rachel Waller said.

The District told 41 Action News that they're still taking those reservations online.

"The table setup is really great because everything is spaced out, according to the social distancing guidelines. And we just want people to feel really comfortable here, while they're enjoying the game. When they get up...they do need to wear a mask," Waller added.

Contactless menus are also available at each table, as well as decals on the ground to space out attendees.

The District has held watch events for Sporting Kansas City and the Royals this summer, with a positive response from those who went downtown to watch games.

Staff and security will be on hand to keep crowding to a minimum, and to remind attendees to keep their masks on when walking throughout the KC Live! block.

Procedures are also in place for working staff.

"We really wanted to provide extra protection for all of our team members who are working," Waller said. "So we added plexiglass stations at each of the points of sale, where guests will be interacting directly with a bartender or server. And it's been really helpful for people to be able to go up to the bar and order drinks, they feel a lot more comfortable."

The surrounding bars and restaurants will also be open to purchase drinks and food and will adhere to city ordinances regarding masks and capacity limits.
