KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The AFC West champs are back home, but not without some extra baggage.

Mahomes and company grit out another close win, this time to the upstart Miami Dolphins, who squeezed the defending champs for four turnovers Sunday in Miami Gardens.

“The mistakes that we're making are guys trying to make that extra play,” Reid told reporters during his Monday availability. “Sometimes you can go a little too far with it."

A Mecole Hardman fumble midway through the third quarter opened the door for a furious 17-point scoring run from Miami. Kansas City hung on late to win 33-28, clinching a fifth straight division title.

“I want him to keep firing,” Reid said on Mahomes’ three-interception game. “There's no discouragement that takes place.”

Reid credits Mahomes for learning from mistakes without "beating himself up."

"These guys want you to coach them," Reid added. "Kansas City’s last five games have been decided by single digits."

Reid told reporters he feels KC is close to playing their best football but must protect the ball.

"They want they want to do the right thing then and they get they get upset when they don't," he finished.

The Chiefs (12-1) currently sit in first place in the AFC playoff picture.
