KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid admitted Monday his game plan around fourth and short situations changed after Mahomes’ injury in October 2019.
“You hate to admit it, but that didn't work out so well,” Reid said.
Mahomes dislocated his kneecap while attempting a quarterback sneak in a short yardage situation in Week 7's game against the Denver Broncos.
“I think we have other things that we can do,” Reid said.
Faced with a fourth and short situation Sunday against the New York Jets, Mahomes handed the ball off to new addition Le’Veon Bell, who was stopped short.
“We didn't do very well yesterday with it, but for the most part, we're pretty good with it,” Reid said.
Kansas City has converted five of 10 fourth down attempts this season.
