KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chad Henne thought his time on the field was over for the season after his Week 17 start against the Atlanta Falcons, which gave starting QB Patrick Mahomes some much needed rest.
But little did the backup QB know he'd be heading into the Chiefs Divisional game against the Cleveland Browns in just the third quarter.
Mahomes left mid-game to undergo concussion protocol after a speed option gone wrong with Cleveland Browns Mack Wilson. That resulted in a hard hit to the Super Bowl MVP's head, and Mahomes went limp as he tried to stand and was helped to the sideline.
After seeing his teammate sidelined, the 35 year old knew it was go time.
41 Action News sat down with Henne for an exclusive one-on-one interview to learn what was going through the veteran's head as he stepped up in the most crucial moments for his team.
"I felt like I was prepared and did the best I could when I got in there... As I entered the huddle, they all said, 'I have your back'... This team has given me so much," Henne said.
