TAMPA — The one thing Kansas City Chiefs fans might love more than the team itself is their spouse. That was evident Saturday night in St. Petersburg, Florida.
During a pre-Super Bowl pep rally for Chiefs fans, couples renewed their wedding vows with KC Weddings 2 Go and Pastor Nancy Kerr, who drove from Independence in her mobile chapel.
“It warms everybody’s heart and mine too,” Kerr said.
Lauren and Patrick Stevens said there were more people watching them renew their vows than at their original wedding five years ago. Even among strangers, sharing the ceremony with fellow Chiefs lovers made the evening memorable.
“Basically, it’s a family, not friendship," Patrick said. "It’s a family. That’s how we do it here in Chiefs Kingdom."
The atmosphere was perfect for Brian Johnson and Jon Lewandowski, who decided to officially get married Saturday at Al Lang Stadium. The couple connected online, has been in a long-distance relationship for months, only meeting face to face for the first time one week ago.
“Once you know, you know,” Johnson said. “The best part of quarantine and FaceTime was you have to talk, you have to get to know the person.”
Johnson, who is a Chiefs fan, said he’ll work on converting Lewandowski from a Buccaneers fan into a Chiefs fan. Love runs deep in the kingdom.
