KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Agony and ecstasy are the best ways to describe what fans experienced in the first 2 AFC championship games at Arrowhead Stadium.
In the 2018 season, it was a crushing overtime loss to the New England Patriots.
Chiefs fans haven't stopped smiling since the Chiefs beat the Tennessee Titans last year for a trip to the Super Bowl.
Only a limited number of fans Sunday will be inside Arrowhead Stadium to see and feel what happens this year.
“No one expected to be in a COVID-19 world that we’re living in now, so the environment has definitely changed but I think the excitement remains for everybody," said Brandon Smith.
For some Chiefs fans, they will be attending their third straight AFC Championship game.
Other fans get to experience AFC championship game football for the first time.
“I’m really excited about it, I was at the Colts playoff game a couple of years ago and that was actually the last game I’ve been to so it’s really exciting to be a part of the AFC Championship game," said Jason Teeman.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced crowd limits, masks and social distancing.
The noise level inside Arrowhead Stadium likely won't reach chest-pounding, ear-splitting levels.
“We try to make up for that, most definitely. It’s not quite as loud and you don’t have that full experience but we do make some noise while we’re out there," said Matt Beffa.
Fans told 41 Action News nothing matters on Sunday except the Chiefs and a good time.
“I feel like people are going to be letting it loose and they’re definitely going to hear and feel us," said Christopher Munsterman.
