KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Kansas City, Kansas, charter bus company is offering Chiefs fans a unique way to get to Tampa, Florida, in the days leading up to Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium.
The Chiefs fan bus is an initiative Heartland Trailways started last year, when the Chiefs went to (and won) Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
The package includes round-trip transportation to Tampa, a hotel room, breakfast, and shuttle service to and from activities. The package costs $1,500 per person or $1,100 for double occupancy.
Led by coach Andy Reid, Kansas City hopes to become the first repeat champions in NFL history since the 2003-04 New England Patriots next weekend.
“With the pandemic this year, we were tossing about, ‘Do we go? Do we not go?,’” Matthew Locke, who oversees operations for Heartland Trailways, said. “'Big Red' (Reid)and the team pulled it off against Buffalo (in the AFC Championship Game), so we came in and said, ‘All right, we have to do it now.’”
Heartland is enacting several changes this year in response to COVID-19.
Half of the seats on the bus will be blocked off and there will be daily temperatures checks. Passengers will be required to wear masks during the trip, except when actively eating and drinking.
The bus departs at noon Wednesday for Tampa and returns on Feb.8 to Kansas City.
