KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs fans will have to wait a little longer to get a definitive update on quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes was removed from Sunday's divisional-round game against the Cleveland Browns after a hard hit left him woozy and unable to stand on his own briefly.
He was assessed for a concussion and did not return to the field.
After the game, coach Andy Reid said Mahomes was "doing great" and passed needed tests.
The hard hit came after the quarterback had already injured his toe early on in the game. Reid is not worried about that injury.
Reid on Mahomes' toe injury: "I think he'll OK there." Doesn't sound too concerned.

During a Monday press call, Reid simply said that Mahomes is under NFL concussion protocol.

Under concussion protocol, the quarterback must wait at least five days to return to the field while he is monitored.
It is unclear if Mahomes will be able to play in next week's AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Reid asked optimism on Mahomes playing. "I leave that to the docs....I can't tell you from a medical standpoint where he's at." #Chiefs

Backup quarterback Chad Henne was able to take over and secure the win for the Chiefs and would take the field Sunday should Mahomes be ruled out.
Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland is also under concussion protocol after Sunday's game.
