KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs fans are feeling good right about now.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes will play on Sunday in the AFC Championship game, and a win would bring them one step closer to possibly being back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
During the struggles of this pandemic, medical professionals say this team is good for our mental health. The pandemic has stopped a lot of things in our lives, things we used to enjoy are at a halt.
But with the Chiefs, we can guarantee something each week; that people around the city can sit on the couch and go back to something that feels normal.
This is a normal many people need right now.
"Despite the fact that we had a heavy week, things were not going the way we wanted to, we have this one thing that we know it's going to turn on at a certain time, certain channel and we can prepare for that we can sit down. Enjoy it. So it gives us a meaningful activity to again help support our mental health and well being," Vladimir Sainte, Therapist at Truman Medical Center said.
The team brings something exciting to look forward to and Sainte said it's a healthy distraction.
"They increase our coping skills right, they increase resilience through productive, healthy distractions. We can learn to how to properly handle heavy emotions, anxiety and other stressful situations," Sainte said.
Sunday's game kicks off at 5:40 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium.
