Recovery is estimated at four months, meaning the rookie will not make a Super Bowl appearance in Tampa next week.
Gay didn't play in the AFC Championship game due to an ankle sprain, and it's unclear if the meniscus injury is related or new.
Left tackle Eric Fisher will also be sitting out the big game after he tore his Achilles tendon while playing the Buffalo Bills.
