KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are going to Super Bowl LV, which means some fans in Chiefs Kingdom also are preparing to travel to Tampa.
Chase Lemmons bought his flight to Tampa before the AFC Championship game. He does not plan on going to the game, but watching with friends who live near Raymond James Stadium.
“I just want to walk through that 2.7 mile stretch from Armature Works to Sparkman Wharf where they are doing the Super Bowl Live events dressed in red as much as I can,” Lemmons said.
For other fans who plan on traveling to Tampa and attending the big game, prepare to spend a lot of money— at least $10,424 per person for three nights, based on rates 41 Action News found.
Tickets to the Games: $8,975 +
This year the NFL is restricting the number of Super Bowl tickets due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Only 14,500 tickets are being offered.
The least expensive ticket on Ticket for Less’ website Monday night was for a seat located in Level 305, Row DD. The sale price was listed for $8,975 a seat.
“There’s a lot less inventory with fewer seats,” Adam Rossbach, vice president of sales and marketing for Tickets for Less, said.
Rossbach said the matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady is increasing the value of tickets.
If fans are interested in purchasing tickets, Rossbach suggested looking out for hidden fees. Some websites will charge thousands of dollars in service fees.
Hotels to Stay At: $269+
Even fans who don’t want to spend close to $9,000 on a ticket to the game, still are interested in traveling to Tampa.
Unlike the Super Bowl in Miami, Mark Ebbits, president of Shelton Travel Service, said finding a place to stay will not be a problem.
“Tampa is much cheaper than Miami was,” Ebbits said. “The best hotel in Clearwater Beach is no more than $500 a night, and that’s a really nice hotel. And (there are) no minimums. You can stay one or two nights.”
A room at the Days Inn and Suites, located five minutes from the stadium by car is $269 a night.
Airfare: $642 +
On Monday, Southwest added several direct trips from Kansas City to Tampa, and back.
A round trip ticket from Kansas City to Tampa, leaving Friday and returning Monday, is listed as $642 on Southwest Airlines. Both flights are non-stop.
American Airlines also added a direct flight.
