KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals used the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft to snag a college pitcher few expected would be there.
Texas A&M lefthander Asa Lacy, a 6-foot-4 and 215-pound junior, went an 11-5 with a 2.32 ERA in his 38-game college career.
Opponents hit only .174 against him in his two-plus years in College Station, Texas, where Lacy struck out 178 batters in 128 innings.
He was a 2019 Third-Team All-American and considered the top college pitcher in the draft.
