KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Food and drinks are going to be cheaper this year at Kauffman Stadium.
The Kansas City Royals announced Tuesday its expanding what it calls "The K Budget Buys."
These include the following:
16 oz. Pepsi: $3
Miller Lite cans: $5
Hot dogs: $4
Popcorn: $3
Pretzels: $3
Those prices will be available at concession stands in sections 120, 135, 213, 242, 308, 417 and 422. Each stand with these prices will have special signage, according to the team.
The Royals also announced the creation of "Happy Hour" at Kauffman. On Tuesday and Fridays from June through September, fans can buy select beer from the Miller Lite Fountain Bar and Blue Moon Taproom for $3. These specials will last from when the gates open until the first pitch.
The "Happy Hour" special excludes the following dates: June 4, August 13, August 16 and September 27.
In another discount special announced Tuesday, the Royals said fans can get select Boulevard beers for $4 at the Craft and Draft section and the Boulevard Radler Station on Wednesdays. Craft and Draft will also have half-price appetizers on those nights. These specials will only be available from when the games open until first pitch.
The cheaper food and beer prices seems to be a growing trend to increase attendance at stadiums nationwide. According to an article from CNBC last fall, teams hope the cheaper food and drink prices will attract fans to come to the games, instead of stay at home and watch on TV.
The Royals open the 2019 season Thursday against the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.
