Kansas City hit three bombs in the fourth inning, giving starting pitcher Danny Duffy eight runs of support in his first win in three starts.
The home run slugger Soler saying the 4th inning showed off his team's grit. “We took a stand and we decided to go out there and fight and put a bunch of hits together…scoring all those runs was a big stand.”
The lefty allowed five hits over four innings pitched, allowing only two home runs to a Twins club, which led the majors with 307 bombs in 2019. Manager Mike Matheny said afterward how proud he was of his club's ability to overcome the adversity in the fourth and fight back.
“That inning where we give up four and come right back and take six, that’s special and that’s the sort of thing that can carry a club for awhile, knowing that you got that kind of talent, that you got that kind of ability," Matheny said. "And then guys doing the little things right… But obviously the three home runs were huge….just all around a really good day for us.”
The bullpen continued strong work against the Twins, scattering four hits across four innings, striking out six Twins.
Lee Summit native Trevor Rosenthal closing for the team, recording the final four outs, picking up his first 4-out save since August of 2017, said “winning is very fun."
"It’s good to string some together and keep the momentum going," he said. "That’s what we’ve been looking for from the start, is just to catch that break and have the one big offensive night and come back the next day and build upon it.”
Brady Singer is scheduled to make his fourth start of the season in Sunday’s series finale. He has gone at least five innings in each start.
First pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. CST.
