Sporting bows out early in U.S. Open Cup

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Sporting Kansas City didn't stay long in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, losing to Minnesota United FC 4-1 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

After an early Minnesota goal, Gerso Fernandes pulled Sporting even in the 27th minute.

But the second half belonged to Minnesota. Darwin Quintero scored twice and an Ethan Finlay also scored to advance to the Round of 16.

It's Sporting's first Round of 32 defeat in the Open Cup since 2000, breaking a streak of nine straight victories at this stage of the tournament.

Sporting will next face the Columbus Crew on the road on June 23rd.
