KANSAS CITY, Kan. — It's been a perfect month of August for Sporting Kansas City. Four wins without allowing opponents to score a single goal.
Soon the club will be without two of its most potent weapons. Daniel Salloi and Johnny Russell will leave the team following Sunday's match at Seattle.
"It's difficult because you want to stay, and you want to leave at the same time," said Salloi. "I think we have a lot of depth to our team."
The high scoring duo has been selected to join their respective national teams for 10 days. Salloi will join the Hungarian team Russell is headed home to Scotland. A happy occasion, but still an obstacle for manager Peter Vermes.
"Its good for them obviously. It shows that somebody sees that they are playing well, and it's always a great honor for your national team," said Vermes.
Russell certainly feels that way. "There's no better feeling than playing for your national country. I've got no worries about the team when we are away."
With 15 goals between the two, no question Salloi and Russell have been huge assets to this team.
They're only going to miss one game, the September 8th match against Orlando but they will be back in place with the club Sept. 15 when they head out to take on San Jose.
