KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In the earliest played matched in club history, Sporting Kansas City beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 to advance in the MLS is Back Tournament Wednesday morning.
It took Sporting just 51 seconds to take the lead thanks to forward Jhonny Russell.
With the score coming just after 8:09 a.m., it was the earliest goal scored in Sporting history, according to a tweet by the club.

In the 86th minute of the match, Gerso Fernandes hit a dagger to seal the win for sporting.

With the win, Sporting advanced to the knockout round where it will face off against the top 16 teams in the league.
The win also gives Sporting a chance to finish in first place in Group D, if Colorado wins or ties against Minnesota.
