Top-seeded K-State, Kansas could meet in title-game rubber match

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas State drew the top seed and Kansas is seeded third, setting up a possible championship rubber match between the Sunflower State rivals in the 2019 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship.

The 10-team, single-elimination tournament gets underway Wednesday at the Sprint Center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

TCU (19-12, 7-11 Big 12) and Oklahoma State (12-19, 5-13) square off in the opening game at 6 p.m. on Wednesday followed by Oklahoma (19-12, 7-11) versus West Virginia (12-19, 4-14).

Coach Bruce Weber’s conference co-champion Wildcats (24-7, 14-4) face the TCU/Oklahoma State winner on Thursday in the second game of the tourney’s first full day.

The action kicks off with Baylor (19-12, 10-8) battling Iowa State (20-11, 9-9).

After K-State plays, fellow Big 12 co-champion Texas Tech (26-5. 14-4) squares off against the Oklahoma/West Virginia winner before the Jayhawks (23-8, 12-6) clash with Texas (16-15, 8-10) at 8 p.m.

If K-State reaches the semifinals against the Baylor/Iowa State winner, it would be at 6 p.m. con Friday followed by the second semifinal.

The Big 12 championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament will be decided at 5 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
