KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Many connections between the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears, who square off this week on Sunday Night Football, are obvious.

Bears coach and former Chiefs assistant Matt Nagy will face mentor Andy Reid and his old employer.

Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes and Chicago's Mitch Trubisky will be forever linked as the first two quarterbacks taken in the 2017 NFL Draft.

But there's another deeper connection that often gets overlooked: the Toub family.

Many Chiefs fans know Dave Toub as the conductor of the Chiefs' special teams unit as well as a former Bears assistant, but there's another Toub still in Chicago — Shane Toub, Dave's son.

"I'm just so proud of him," Dave said. "He's young. He's 26 years old, and he's in his second year in the NFL. From what I hear, he's doing a really good job. I'm proud of him."

That's right, Shane is an offensive assistant in Chicago. He also coached with the University of Illinois after four years as a center on the University of Dayton football team.

Dave Toub can't wait for the reunion.

"It's going to be awesome," he said. "Going back, I was there for nine years. I've almost been here for as long — seven years. I have a lot of fond memories there."

Sunday's game marks the first time Toub has returned to Soldier Field with the Chiefs for a regular-season game. He also shared the same field as Shane when the Chiefs played at Chicago during the preseason last year.

"It was a preseason game, so there was a lot less pressure, but it was fun just to get out there and talk to him and take pictures," Dave said.
