KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of Missouri's basketball team is off to its best start in seven seasons.

Sunday, the Tigers defeated the Wichita State Shockers by 10 points, 72-62 and are 3-0 ahead of Wednesday's match-up against Liberty.

“I think it just kind of reassured us, if anything, that we have all the pieces that we need, and that as long as we’re locked in and we’re buying in to what coach is saying, we’re going to be a good team," said Dru Smith, guard, University of Missouri.

The Tigers will host Liberty at Mizzou Arena Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

The true test for the Tigers comes Saturday when the team faces sixth-ranked Illinois.

“We’re taking one game at a time. We’re focused on Liberty this week. They’re a good team, so it’s a big game for us Wednesday, so that’s really the focus right now, nothing else," said Mark Smith, guard, University of Missouri.

Across the street, Mizzou's football team is focused on Saturday's Georgia matchup, another top 10 team.

If the Tigers can get the job done, they would take over second place in the SEC East.

“We’re focused on being 1-0 and the opportunity in play a top 10 opponent. There’s really nothing more into that," said head coach Eli Drinkwitz.

Looking at their records, both Tiger squads are proving they can compete in the SEC.
