KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of Missouri-Kansas City has selected its new men's basketball coach.

41 Action News has confirmed the university is expected to hire current Northwestern assistant coach Billy Donlon.

Jeff Goodman of Stadium was first to report the news on Tuesday.

41 Action News was first to report earlier this month that UMKC fired now former coach Kareem Richardson. Richardson went 75-118 in six seasons in Kansas City.

Donlon joined Northwestern as an assistant in 2017. Before that, he spent time as an assistant at the University of Michigan. His only head coaching experience in college basketball includes six years at Wright State University in Ohio. During his tenure, Donlon went 109-94.

An official announcement is expected from UMKC later this week.
